About The New School Rome
About Us
The New School was founded in 1972 by parents and teachers who wanted to create a school where academic excellence would be combined with attention to the individual and the development of personal and social responsibility.
Over 50 years on, this vision continues to thrive and serve the needs of the international community in Rome. The New School follows an enhanced English National Curriculum that places learning in the context of life in the ‘Eternal city’ that is Rome. Our Academic outcomes are very strong and our pastoral care second to none.
We are a not for profit, non-selective, independent private day school recognised by the Italian Ministry of Education and a member COBIS (Council of British International Schools)
We have a unique democratic structure where teachers, students and parents work together in partnership through representation on the two decision making bodies, the Academic Council and the Executive Council. The elected Chairperson of The Academic Council is also the Headteacher. The Chairperson of the Executive Council, which is responsible for the legal and financial aspects of the school, is an elected parent member.
The School Environment
Situated on the leafy, residential north side of the city, The New School is just 15 minutes from Piazza del Popolo and the historic centre of Rome.
The school buildings are set in a beautiful garden with a large villa, which was once a family home and Foreign Embassy, has retained its warm and friendly atmosphere. New buildings provide bespoke science laboratories, primary classrooms and a well stocked library run by a full time librarian.
We have recently renovated all of our classrooms, which are well resourced with state of the art Interactive Whiteboards. Onsite we have football, basketball and volleyball facilities, a Performing Arts studio and Art Studio. The Physical Education curriculum is augmented by the use of extensive facilities and qualified coaches available in a local sports club.
