Job overview
An inspiring, well-qualified and enthusiastic full-time Teacher of PE & Sport is sought for a permanent role beginning in January or April 2025. The Director of Sport has oversight of sport across all three of the Bedales Schools with responsibility for the vision of Physical Education and developing sporting talent, primarily within the Senior School (years 9-13), within an innovative and supportive department.
Bedales School is a unique educational establishment, set in the beautiful Hampshire countryside. Our aim is to create an environment where questioning, divergent thinking and freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged. Central to our success is the sense that each person is a member of our community whose voice is entitled to be heard and treated with respect. Both our staff and students expect of each other the best kind of relationships – co-operative, authentic and trustful. This post provides the exciting opportunity to teach and contribute to the development of the BAC Sport Science Curriculum (GCSE equivalent).
Experience & Background
A background as an inspirational and encouraging teacher of Physical Education & Sport is essential. In addition to high quality teaching across the three schools, the ideal candidate will be suitably qualified and experienced to teach a full range of sporting activities in both a mixed and single sex grouping (girls ideally). Expertise in Netball and Hockey are essential.
The Teacher of PE & Sport will need to be an infectiously enthusiastic individual, flexible in their delivery and able to manage change at short notice. They will be able to adapt their approach to the needs of the group. Above all else, they will ensure that in all aspects of their work the needs of the children are the main consideration. You should also be keen to play a full and inclusive role in the life of our busy boarding community and be able to contribute to the development of our innovative school. The candidate should be confident and familiar with the administration required to manage a busy sports programme and make positive contributions to our co-curricular programme.
Timetable
The full-time teaching commitment is 32 lessons per week. Dependent on candidate experience, there is an exciting development opportunity to become ‘Head of Hockey’, which would involve a potential reduction in lesson time to accommodate the administration involved in this role.
Learning takes place throughout the day and encompasses tutoring, co-curricular activities, and support and extension sessions as well as subject lessons. Most core curriculum commitments for students are scheduled from 09:25 hrs to 18:00 hrs on Monday to Friday, and until 13:00 hrs on Saturday. Students also have access to optional activities before and after the main school day. Bedales is a busy boarding school so work during the evenings, weekends and holidays may be required depending on the nature of the post.
This post is Regulated Activity.
