Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and experienced Primary Teacher of Music with a Performance specialism to join our vibrant Music department from January 2025. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach outstanding lessons across Key Stages 1 and 2, will have excellent classroom management skills, and will be able to inspire and motivate our Reception to Year 6 pupils through a diverse range of learning styles. They will lead Pre-Prep and Lower Prep music, to include music clubs, an annual production, assemblies, concerts and special events, such as Harvest Festival and Christmas, working closely with Pre-Prep to select and prepare music, and to teach this to our pupils.
The current incumbent also teaches the Performance component of Music A Level to our Sixth Form A Level entrants, whether vocalists or instrumentalists. Your performance specialism could be classical, musical theatre or popular music style.
A teaching qualification is not essential to this role, although applicants will need to demonstrate their considerable experience of and passion for delivering music to and working with groups of children; tried and tested behaviour management skills; and the ability to think on their feet! Experience in the use of ICT within the music curriculum and a willingness to keep up to date with development in this area would be highly advantageous. Applicants will need good keyboard skills.
The successful candidate will consistently model excellent practice and will look to make a significant contribution to this thriving department. Teaching staff at Harrodian should expect to lead a form, run lunch-time/after-school clubs and contribute to shaping the extra-curricular life of the school. We are continually developing our range of teaching resources within the department and we endeavour to provide a range of exciting opportunities for pupils to develop their appreciation of Music. The department seeks to promote Music outside the classroom and the post-holder will be encouraged to organise trips, visits and productions. Involvement with these latter responsibilities will particularly suit a teacher with strong organisational and communication skills.
