Sandringham School is highly popular, outstanding and World Class school situated in the picturesque city of St Albans, conveniently located just 20 minutes by train from St Pancras.
We are looking to appoint a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious teacher of Science to join our highly successful Science Faculty. Our Science results at GCSE and A level are outstanding, with 92% achieving grade 9-4 at GCSE combined science and 100% achieving 9-4 in Triple Science qualifications. A very high proportion of students take triple science. Our huge sixth form offers plenty of opportunities to teach at KS5, with 3 classes each year in every science A level and with outstanding results. The department benefits from highly specialist facilities, including 6 new labs in addition to 8 original labs and a large technician team. "Having studied biomedical sciences to masters level, I initially worked as a Research Assistant. I then went on to travel and work as a teacher of English in Thailand and South Korea. I really enjoyed the teaching but missed the science, so I decided to return to my specialism through teacher training at the University of Hertfordshire. Sandringham was one of my training placements and I really enjoyed it here. The faculty is really supportive and I loved teaching here during the placement, so I applied for a teaching role as soon as it became available. I am now in my third year having completed the ECT process and I am really enjoying taking on new challenges this year, such as A level teaching, where I can really use my subject expertise. About Sandringham School
Sandringham is a highly popular and oversubscribed school with an excellent reputation both locally and nationally. Over the past years we have been graded Outstanding by Ofsted at every visit to the school. We have been in the 100 top performing non-selective state schools in England for the past 6 years, and are one of the first to gain 'World Class Schools' status. Each year our examination results demonstrate high performance at all levels. Our value added is very high placing the school in the top percentile rankings of all schools nationally. Saying this, there is still plenty of room for improvement and we are working hard to continue to raise standards wherever possible. We support all areas of the curriculum and, in addition, have a strong focus on STEM subjects and the Arts. We also hold International School status and encourage work on an international basis.
Sandringham School is a member of the Alban Academies Trust, together with Verulam School, Ridgeway Academy, Wheatfield’s Junior School and Wheatfield’s Infants’ and Nursery School. Sandringham also co-ordinates the Alban Federation which is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training Provider. As part of the AAT we offer an enhanced induction programme for all our NQTS. This programme begins at the beginning of July with our 3 week summer induction programme, which attracts an attendance payment of £2,000 and a contract on the main pay scale from 1st September. Support is provided by subject and senior leader mentors and we offer subject specific as well as general training through ATSA and Herts for Learning events. We are also a National Teaching School and run the Alban Teaching School Alliance with Sir John Lawes School in Harpenden and STAGS in St Albans, offering significant CPD opportunities for staff across a large number of schools. All our teaching staff are provided with a laptop and iPad and as our own admitting authority our admissions criteria now includes a children of staff rule.
We deliver a blended learning environment with every student able to use their own tablet device in the classroom. One of our most important and well-established networks is the BeauSandVer Consortium that provides high-quality post-16 education across Beaumont, Sandringham and Verulam Schools. We are an eight form entry school with 1482 students including over 380 in the Sixth Form.
