Teacher of Science
Full Time
Temporary for One Year
NQT/MPS/UPS
January 2025 start
We are looking for an inspirational practitioner to teach science within their subject specialism in our successful and thriving science department at Horsforth School.
With our brand new sixth form block containing four state-of-the-art science laboratories, this is a fantastic time to join Horsforth School’s vibrant science department.
You will have the opportunity to enhance our vision of ‘opportunity and achievement for all’ as a member of a department with a strong track record of quality results; we have consistently attained some of the best A-level results in Leeds, and our GCSE progress in science is ‘well above average’.
Success is seen throughout our ambitious and consistently oversubscribed 11-19 school, which enjoys strong community and international links. Our commitment to excellence in education is recognised nationally. Ofsted describes our behaviour as ‘outstanding’ and the students at Horsforth have a love of learning.
Our school is dedicated to evidence-based practice with a focus on Rosenshine’s principles of instruction. We have a strong emphasis on incorporating educational research into the classroom. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher, where you will have the opportunity of working in a supportive and experienced science department with a strong team ethos. We believe in working collaboratively, sharing ideas and supporting each other to achieve great things as we develop innovative teaching and learning strategies. There is a strong emphasis on science at Horsforth School as we are a former Science College which leads to a high uptake of all science A levels and triple science GCSE.
We are looking for a teacher who can add to our large diverse team of practitioners and to share our love of science to inspire the next generation of future STEM graduates. A specialist in biology would be preferable, but not necessary.
This would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced colleague who can teach across the ability range at KS3, KS4 and KS5. The position offers an excellent opportunity for either an established teacher or an NQT to join our high achieving school with an opportunity to teach to A level standard for suitable applicants. Science is delivered in subject specialism from year 9 as we have a firm belief in the importance of subject knowledge.
For our 1500 and growing students, Horsforth School provides an engaging environment of discovery and growth. For our colleagues too, this setting offers some great benefits. Located in north-west Leeds, the school is just five miles from the city centre with its thriving retail, leisure and cultural facilities, yet on the edge of open countryside. York, Harrogate and the Dales are within easy reach.
GCSE and A Level results are consistently well above the national averages and in 2022, 2023 and 2024 the school had the best state school A Level results in the whole of Leeds. Horsforth School was also named one of the top schools in Yorkshire in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide in 2022.

Closing date: 8am on Monday 14th October 2024
Start date: January 2025
We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and we expect all colleagues to share this commitment. Appointments will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
