Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join Ranby House Nursery and Prep. School as part of the Academic Support staff.

The Role

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to provide the highest quality care and learning environment for our children.

The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for supporting the children at our school and is expected to inspire, excite and to nurture every child within their care

Hours

38.75 per week, (Monday to Friday, Term-Time plus).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This particular post will also involve 1:1 support to a student who is deaf. The role is ideal for someone with a passion for helping children overcome communication barriers and success academically and socially.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, responsibilities will include:

Providing personalised 1:1 support to a pupil who is deaf, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.

Implementing tailored communication strategies, including the use of sign language or other relevant tools, to facilitate effective learning and interaction.

Collaborating closely with teaching staff, as well as external professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the student’s specific needs.

Monitoring the student’s progress, adapting support strategies as necessary, and ensuring their well-being and inclusion within the school community.

Supporting the development of the student’s social, emotional and academic skills, fostering their confidence and independence.

The candidate will accompany the child to all lessons and events, to ensure she can access the lesson content and offer advice to staff to amend lessons to be fully inclusive for a deaf child.

The role also has a high level or emotional and pastoral support, so a person with the ability to empathise, understand and support a deaf child’s experience and difficulties, from fatigue to technical equipment is required.

Being able to use BSL is certainly desirable, yet we will welcome and consider applications from candidates who are not experienced in deaf education, but who have a basic background knowledge or strong interest in working with deaf children and young people.

Ideally the candidate will continue their care and support for the 1:1 child as they move through the Upper Junior years of the Prep. School and then onto Worksop College in Key Stage 3 and above.

This Job Description covers the main duties and responsibilities of the role. The role holder may be asked to carry out other activities commensurate with this Job Description from time to time.
