Job overview
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Teaching Assistant Level 3 SEN for work experience to join an outstanding school and college dedicated to supporting young people with special educational needs.
The role is to act as a job coach to support students to develop transferable employability and life skills, through work experience placements and learning activities, both onsite and in the community. You will work closely with a passionate team and a network of local employers to ensure students achieve their full potential.
You will be required to accompany and support students to develop their skills at a variety of work experience placements. You will work alongside them in businesses such as warehouses, shops, farms and cafes in the local community. The role also requires the successful candidate to support students develop life skills through escorting them in using public transport to attend work placements.
The school has recently acquired a coffee van and are planning on setting this up as a business venture to enable students to develop their employability skills in another setting. This role will be involved in the establishment and delivery of this venture. To support this, experience of working in customer facing roles as well as an educational setting is desirable.
You must have held a full driving license for at least 2 years to apply for this post. The successful applicant will be required to drive a minibus to transport students to external work placements.
This is a Grade 5 permanent post, working 35 hours per week term time only plus 10 days, a total of 40 weeks per year. The starting pro rata salary is £23,707 and the full time equivalent is £26,873.
Main purpose of the job:
To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for delivering agreed learning activities to identified groups of students. The post holder will provide support to curriculum development in specialised areas.
The successful applicant must be able to work effectively with the whole school community including pupils, parents, governors, and staff.
Key Relationships:
The main contacts of the job are: Curriculum Leader, SLT Line manager, SLT at the school, teaching staff, other support staff, students, parents, and external support services.

Pioneer House High School is a special school located in Northern Moor which provides 100 day places for 11 to 19 year old pupils, with a unique focus in preparing pupils with significant additional needs, to become independent and productive adults. The school has a strong vocational emphasis and pupils will have the potential to progress on to supported or independent employment/internships/apprenticeships or college.
The school was opened in 2016 and moved to a new, purpose built, site in 2017. It has a range of facilities including a one-bedroom bungalow, poly-tunnel, wooded area and play areas.
The school has been described as warm and welcoming by Ofsted, who completed their first inspection in May 2019, rating the school outstanding.
