Job overview
The Dragon seeks to appoint a Teaching Assistant for the Pre-Prep for Year 2, who will work in partnership with the class teachers to create a welcoming, happy, and stimulating classroom in which children are expected to work enthusiastically and industriously. To help each child to progress at a rate that allows him or her to achieve their full potential and promote the overall well-being of the Pre-Prep Department by contributing to and participating in departmental activities. This is a fixed term role for the Spring and Summer terms only (01 January 2025 -31 August 2025).
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- To help teach, under the direction of the class teacher, according to their individual educational needs, the pupils in the class.
- To help mark work in line with the Dragon Pre-Prep policy reflecting each learning objective.
- To support teachers with educational visits.
- To lead group work and hear children read.
· To co-operate with colleagues.
· To be able to deal sensitively with children at all times.
· To prepare and tidy up resources and equipment.
· To be ready in the classroom before school starts, so that the day’s activities are set up and to tidy up at the end of the day.
Assessment, Records and Reports
- To help the teachers assess and keep records of each child’s academic progress both through personal records and those set out in the school policy, being proactive in informing the teacher of any particular concerns.
- To follow school policies in relation to communication with parents and children, both orally and in the home/school diaries
- To help keep records of any significant social and emotional developments.
- To be present at Parents’ Evenings if required.
Activities
- To support the Pre-Prep community by attending Assemblies.
- To contribute to all school occasions such as Harvest, Christmas, Open Days and Sports Days etc
- To take an active part in making high quality displays throughout the school
- To be part of the weekly activity and after school care rota.
- To share in taking all duties, including playground and lunch
- To be willing to contribute fully to the games/ PE and swimming at Pre-Prep.
Meetings and Further Professional Development
- To attend weekly staff meetings and be present at meetings at the beginning and end of term.
- To participate in INSET convened to review and improve teaching methods and programmes of work.
- To attend courses which are relevant to further professional development.
- To meet with the Head or members of the Pre-Prep management team to review professional development.
Discipline, Health and Safety
- At all times to have regard for the safety of everyone at Pre-Prep.
- To respond to fire regulations and health & safety policies as drawn up by the school.
- To maintain good order in the class and, along with all members of the Pre-Prep community, promote the school Values of Kindness, Courage and Respect.
- To undertake a general course in First Aid and liaise with First Aid Officers when necessary.
Administration
- To supervise the playground, lunch table and after school care according to an agreed rota.
- To cover for absent staff as necessary.
- To help order materials and equipment in agreement with year group, department and Head of Pre-Prep.
- To work closely with any other persons in the classroom.
- To be familiar with all Dragon policy documents.
