Job overview

We are looking to recruit three Teaching Assistants to join our thriving and happy team. Tiffin School is a high achieving boys’ selective state school with a mixed Sixth Form. With a growing number of students with SEND, we are looking to further expand the department. Initially two year fixed contract. We are interested in both full time or part time applicants.

The majority of SEND students have either a Communication and Interaction (C&I) need, or a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) need as their primary diagnosis. This is predominantly students with high-functioning ASC, and ADHD/ADD although we also have an increasing number of students with physical impairments (namely visual & hearing).

Over the last couple of years, the Learning Support Department has significantly grown.  Led by our SENCo, we are lucky to have a Deputy SENCo in charge of KS3 and a team of 4 teaching assistants, who work to promote excellence in our students both academically and pastorally, in and out of the classroom. We also have a Therapeutic Practitioner on the team who supports students with SEND in their mental well-being. Each TA takes on responsibility for being a key worker for high need students, which ensures continuity of support and excellent parental and external agency relationships, as well as wider SEND responsibilities. Whoever joins our team should be passionate about providing outstanding support and be flexible and positive in their approach to all situations.

What the role involves:

The Teaching Assistant role involves supporting students, assisting the class teacher, helping to maintain a productive & positive learning environment and assisting with administration. You may be required to provide ad-hoc or dedicated 1:1 support to specific students and also to provide whole-class support in lessons, as well as transition times, according to your skill set.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Proactive and professional
  • Confident, enthusiastic and a passionate about learning
  • Proficient in English, Maths & IT skills
  • Able to liaise effectively with students, staff, parents and external agencies, and endeavour to build good working relationships.
  • Able to cope with the fast pace of academics, allowing our students to strive with your support.
  • Willing to undertake further training to enhance their skillset
  • Willing to undertake a lead on academic mentorship, organisational support or accessing wider curriculum support.

This is a great opportunity for someone who maybe considering training to teach in the future.

Tiffin School has a vibrant and friendly staff, with a diverse mix of teachers and support staff. The location is close to Kingston town centre, with excellent public transport links to Central London. We are close to Richmond and Bushy Parks, and the Surrey countryside. Benefits include: season ticket loan/Cycle to Work scheme/salary advance scheme for a rental deposit/free on-site parking /enhanced maternity benefits/two week Autumn half term break and Local Government Pension Scheme. For a good feel of the School, please look at the Head’s Newsletters on the website.

About Tiffin School

Tiffin School is one of the foremost boys' selective schools in the country with a large Sixth Form which went mixed in 2019.

Tiffin is a great place to teach – it is a friendly, dynamic school where all can thrive and staff are highly valued. Conveniently situated near the centre of the beautiful London Borough of Kingston upon Thames, it is very easy to reach. Our students are bright, able and eager to learn, and we have an environment of excellent behaviour, allowing the opportunity to teach your subject to a high level.

Tiffin achieves excellent results at A Level and GCSE, as well as great success in achieving places for our students at the top universities. However, Tiffin is about far more than academic success; our aim is to develop the whole person.  Tiffin offers a wide range of superb opportunities for its students in our attempt to fulfil our vision of inspiring students to ‘engage, aspire and excel’.  Sport, Music, the Performing Arts, the House system, and an extensive programme of trips, provide regular opportunities for the students, and are offered by a staff that enthusiastically support this unique provision of co-curricular activities in a state school.

The move to make the Sixth Form mixed, the introduction of Google Chromebooks to all pupils and staff, and the significant recent capital expenditure in new buildings and facilities, all demonstrate our commitment to constantly develop the school for the future.

Tiffin offers an excellent place to teach and to develop one’s career in a stimulating, supportive and enjoyable education environment.
