Your new school
The Vale is a successful and high achieving 11 to 18 academy which has an excellent reputation and an established trend of high student outcomes, which are consistently above those achieved nationally. Indeed, 2023 outcomes placed the academy second in the local authority for overall progress which was "above" national average at +0.32 and its attainment at 4+ and 5+ in both English and Maths was 74% and 50% respectively. Provisional results for 2024 see this trend continuing with students’ performance in English and Maths being significantly above national averages.
The academy is situated in Brigg, North Lincolnshire and serves a largely rural community. Brigg itself is a historic market town on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Many of our students travel a considerable distance to school.
In January 2017, the academy moved into a new building which provides state of the art facilities and an outstanding learning environment for both students and staff. The Vale also offers an extensive and varied programme of extra curricular activities to support a rich and rounded education, both within and beyond the classroom, and has a particular specialism in music.

About The Vale Academy
Who we are
The Vale Academy is situated in the small market town of Brigg in North Lincolnshire. The academy is extremely popular and although we take most of our students from Brigg and the surrounding towns and villages, a large number of families from outside the catchment area also select The Vale as their secondary school of choice. Many students are prepared to travel some distance to access the high quality education we offer.
We are a successful and high-achieving 11-18 academy which has an excellent reputation and an established trend of high student outcomes, which are consistently above those achieved nationally.
The change to academy status in 2011 has brought with it many advantages, not least of which is the opportunity to be part of Delta Academies Trust.
At The Vale Academy we pursue excellence for our students within all areas of their lives. We expect them to aspire to be the best that they can be and to achieve the highest possible academic standards. We also expect our students to develop into caring and considerate young people, who will leave the academy to become responsible citizens and make a valuable contribution to society. Indeed, we are justly proud of our students’ positive attitudes and outstanding behaviour.
In January 2017, the academy moved into a new building which provides state of the art facilities and an outstanding learning environment for both students and staff. The Vale also offers an extensive and varied programme of extra-curricular activities to support a rich and rounded education, both within and beyond the classroom, and has a particular specialism in music.
If you aspire to work as part of a high achieving team, with the possibility of also gaining post 16 experience, then The Vale Academy is an excellent choice. We value the continuous professional development of all our employees and recognise that our staff and students are most successful when they feel happy, valued, challenged and supported to achieve their very best. We have a staff rewards budget and socialise both as subject teams and as a whole staff. We also have access to a staff benefits scheme.
Values and vision
The Vale Academy has four core values: quality, partnership, aspiration and responsibility. The school wants all students to achieve to the highest of their ability and achieve their ambitions in a supportive and inspiring learning environment. It wishes for pupils to grow into responsible, caring and considerate citizens who will contribute positively to the community. The school promotes team work and personal development and offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities for students to get involved in, ranging from music lessons to sports clubs. Students also have the opportunity to learn new skills and challenge themselves through The Duke of Edinburgh Award, allowing for them to broaden their experiences outside of the classroom. The Vale Academy fosters good morals at all times: mutual respect, obedience, tolerance, loyalty, care and support.
Ofsted
“Students’ conduct around the academy, their excellent manners, mature attitudes towards each other and to adults are exemplary Teachers question students well, ensuring that they answer in full sentences to develop their speaking and reasoning skills. Teachers, through their good quality progress data, know which students need pushing further and they probe for better answers from these students.”
