We are looking for a dynamic, capable and highly collegiate Technical Theatre Manager, with a passion for supporting lessons, workshops, performances and whole school events. The successful candidate would be joining a creative, skilled and highly experienced Drama department with a very strong record of academic success. This post is offered as a permanent contract from March or April 2022. 

As a pivotal part of the Drama team, the Technical Theatre Manager will provide support with all technical aspects of theatrical productions, workshops, rehearsals, practical examinations and drama lessons. The post is suitable for those with strong experience, aligned with excellent skills in sound, lighting and AV design and operation. Overseeing the day-to-day running of a theatre, the role-holder will also be involved in set design and creation, management and organisation of drama resources, ensuring that the Drama department is compliant with health and safety legislation and assisting with the teaching of technical aspects of drama production.  

Colston’s is a thriving co-educational day school on the outskirts of Bristol, easily accessible from the motorway network and with approximately 800 students aged from 3 to 18. The Upper School occupies a glorious thirty-acre campus and has all of its facilities on-site. The Harry Cook Theatre is an on-site theatre offering over a 1000sqft of floor space. It has an exceptionally well-equipped 164 seat auditorium and control room, alongside a costume, prop and stage store; the successful candidate will support in the development and innovation of the Harry Crook Theatre, as a thriving space for learning and performance.

In our recent ISI report the school was judged excellent in all areas; raw examination results are consistently good, value-add scores are high and we have waiting lists in most year groups. 

The hours for this role  40 hours per week,  working 8am until 5pm Monday to Friday, with an hour unpaid for lunch/breaks. The post is 43 weeks per year (term time, plus INSET, with 5 additional weeks and the equivalent of 3 weeks/120 hours in evening and weekend work to support productions).  A flexible approach to working is required. Hours can be discussed at interview.

You will receive a salary of between £21,275 and £26,275 per annum, dependant on skills and experience. Other benefits include 25 days holiday per year, plus 8 bank holidays, a lunch during term time, free parking on site, a defined contribution pension scheme and staff discount on school fees in accordance with the staff remission policy.
