Job overview

Chigwell School is seeking to recruit either a career changer or a recent graduate to train as a Music teacher from September 2023.

This is an exciting opportunity for an organ scholar or a music graduate with excellent keyboard skills to qualify with QTS as a specialist music teacher. They will also have the opportunity to accompany the many music events in the school calendar, especially playing the newly refurbished organ in the School’s Chapel and the Organ in the local Church of St Mary’s which is used weekly for the School’s act of worship. The position comes with accommodation and therefore full use of the School’s chapel organ throughout the school year.

Chigwell School offers a competitive salary, approximately £20,000 for this role, and all teacher training costs will be met. The position also includes on site accommodation. There is a benefits package and a supportive working environment. There is a well-developed programme of professional development, pupils are enthusiastic, co-operative and able, and colleagues are dedicated and get on well together. There is a strong sense of community.

The Music department enjoys excellent, purpose-built facilities and is seen as one of the School's flagship departments, both academically and practically. The Music Department is a vibrant hub of the school providing space for over 300 instrumental lessons and over 40 rehearsals a week as well as teaching from EYF to year 13. We have a full programme of concerts throughout the year. Our concert series ranges from our Live@6 recitals (all streamed on our YouTube Channel), KS3 Winter Theatricals, (this year Oliver!), full scale ensemble concerts both Junior and Senior School, London Spring Concert at Cadogan Hall, and evensongs as a visiting choir. In addition the department is responsible for weekly music in chapel and church.

We are located in the picturesque village of Chigwell just 10 miles from central London and on the Central Line. Close to the edge of Epping Forest, we enjoy over 100 acres of beautiful grounds.

Applicants should complete the application form which can be accessed directly from our website: https://www.chigwell-school.org/vacancies/ and send it to the HR Manager at hr@chigwell-school.org

Values and vision

Chigwell School’s motto is: “aut viam inveniam aut faciam”, a Latin phrase which means literally, “Either I shall find a way or I will make one". In-keeping with this, the school wants its students to develop a “determined, independent spirit, taking responsibility for themselves, their relationships with others, and the world around us”.

The school defines its mission as aiming to cultivate a learning community that aspires to excellence in all aspects of life, including: spiritual intellectual, moral, cultural, social and emotional aspects.

Chigwell School aims to provide a rounded education in the broadest sense, encouraging pupils to develop and discover talents and interests across and beyond the curriculum in order to help them to play a full part in the life of the school, and go on to make a positive contribution to the world.

The school hopes to be a community in which pupils develop a love of learning and are challenged to think critically, and with creative curiosity, for themselves.
