Unqualified Teacher - PPA Cover Staff

Salary: UNQ Payscale UQ1-6

Contract: Full Time

We wish to appoint a cover teacher who is aspiring to move onto the teacher apprenticeship. This role would suit an experienced member of support staff who has experience already of planning and delivering the curriculum.  The post is initially to cover a maternity post with the possibility of applying to our annual teacher apprenticeship programme for September 2025.   If you are keen to develop professionally, this role will provide you with the foundations and experience to move towards gaining QTS through the apprenticeship route.

You will be working across the school and across age ranges and pathways. You will be working independently and also working under the direction of a teacher to cover their allocated time for their leadership responsibilities. You will be expected to deliver different areas of the curriculum.


Part of the SEARCH Education Trust, The Grove is a very successful Special School in Haringey, which meets the needs of pupils aged 5 to 19 on the autistic spectrum. As a member of the teaching team, you will have access to our outstanding CPD programme and our coaching programme aimed to support and develop high quality pedagogy. You will be part of a supportive and collaborative team and have a mentor to support and guide you through your professional development.

The post holder will be responsible for leading a class, teaching the full curriculum which is based on the primary model. You will be responsible for ensuring there are high quality and effective learning opportunities for all pupils. Class sizes are small and our experienced teams offer support with a collaborative approach to teaching and delivery of the curriculum. The post holder will also be expected to work closely with our multi-disciplinary teams and lead a team of learning support assistants.


The successful candidate will be required to:


  • Have previous experience of working within an inclusive team;
  • Deliver the school curriculum using a flexible approach; 
  • Have previous experience of teaching in some capacity in an autism-specific environment or working with autistic pupils;
  • Work closely with colleagues in a supportive manner to achieve the best outcomes for pupils;
  • Have a passion for autism education and the inclusion agenda;
  • Have some experience of completing SEND assessments and adapting plans;
  • Ensure learning is engaging and inclusive;
  • Work within and contribute to the school community;
  • Have a commitment to an integrated, therapeutic approach and ethos; 
  • Be very flexible and adapt quickly to change;
  • Be positive, be solution focused and support others to do the same;
  • Work within the culture and values of the school and promote these
