The core purpose of the role of Vice Principal (Educational Excellence & Innovation) at Surbiton High School is to lead strategically on learning and teaching, with a focus on innovation and digital strategy, ensuring a tailored approach for every pupil.

 

The role involves leading the strategic development of learning and teaching, ensuring pedagogical practices reflect the School’s ethos and promote interdependent learning and creative thinking. Responsibilities include quality assurance, leading innovative whole-school projects to enhance the School’s educational offerings, and evaluating current learning experiences using evidence-based research. Collaboration with the Vice Principal (Academic) on curriculum matters and designing INSET and CPD offerings that promote outstanding learning are also key aspects.

 

The postholder will manage the development of assessment, reporting, and tracking in the Senior School, staying updated on relevant research and technologies for the monitoring of pupil progress. This includes implementing effective reporting systems, coordinating reporting processes, and analysing test data and exam results. Additionally, the role involves developing a common approach to tracking pupil progress, collaborating on academic intervention strategies, mentoring Heads of Department, and overseeing the coordination and monitoring of homework.

 

The postholder will be instrumental in the development of a comprehensive understanding amongst the staff body of advancing technologies and their implementation in an educational setting. Responsibilities include promoting digital literacy among pupils and staff, sharing best practices for technology and AI in learning, and implementing relevant structures and policies. Keeping staff updated on digital education trends, collaborating with staff to enhance digital technology use, developing AI training plans, advocating for AI to support staff wellbeing, and ensuring data protection compliance are important aspects of the role.

 

The Vice Principal is a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) at Surbiton High School. The postholder will be involved in promoting the school to various stakeholders, with visible involvement in events and participation in pupil and staff recruitment.

 

The ideal candidate for the Vice Principal role at Surbiton High School would have a good first degree, a postgraduate teaching qualification, and evidence of continuous professional development. You should possess dynamic leadership and strong communication and organisational skills with a focus on maintaining positive relationships. A passion for digital innovation and AI and keeping up with innovative teaching methods is essential. Personal qualities we are seeking include a positive and energetic approach, commitment to the School's ethos and vision, and a dedication to professional development. You will have high expectations for pupil achievement and conduct and the ability to promote the School to parents and the local community.

Surbiton High School has approximately 1600 pupils aged between 4 and 18. Our Preparatory Schools are divided into the Girls’ Preparatory School and Boys’ Preparatory School, and the Senior School is girls only from age 11 upwards.
