Job overview

Outwood Academy Valley is a popular and over-subscribed school at the heart of its vibrant community in Worksop. The academy has 1500 students aged 11 to 16 and shares a Post 16 Centre, which has 500 students, with Outwood Academy Portland. The Post 16 Centre is just a two-minute walk from the school. Both sites have excellent facilities providing a bright and motivational learning and working environment. The Trust are now seeking a new Vice Principal with the ambition, personality, and strategic leadership to build on the school’s many strengths and lead it to an even brighter future. Applications are welcomed from leaders seeking their first Vice Principal role or from experienced Vice Principals/Deputy Heads looking for a new challenge.

The academy was graded as Outstanding by Ofsted in 2022 and is ambitious to build on that and secure further improvement. You will be working alongside an experienced and effective Senior Leadership Team to lead an exceptionally talented and committed team of staff. Specific responsibilities can be discussed with the appointed candidate, but you must have a relentless focus on the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring every lesson delivers the highest standard of education and inspiring learners to develop a passion for knowledge and a love of learning. Most importantly you will need the skills to motivate and enthuse, coupled with the ability to model and coach at every level.

Outwood Grange Academy Trust embraces the opportunity to ensure that all children, irrespective of their starting point, receive an excellent education. It relishes the opportunity to be part of the much-needed regeneration of the areas it works in. It is one of the largest MAT’s in the country and with that Outwood Academy Valley can draw on a range of expertise. The Trust also works across geographical sub-regions with Outwood Academy Valley part of the southern region which comprises 10 secondary schools. Colleagues from the schools work closely together, sharing best practice and supporting one another to ensure continuous and never-ending improvement for the 10,500 students in the region. Your professional development will be a priority for the Trust with significant opportunities to engage in Trust wide and cross-phase projects.

This is an exciting time for the school and the new Vice Principal. If you have a proven track record of school improvement as a senior leader in a secondary setting this role offers a fantastic opportunity to lead the future success of Outwood Academy Valley. The successful candidate must have high expectations for all, be an outstanding teacher and be committed to supporting every student. Above all, you will share the school and Trust’s commitment to putting Students First, raising standards and transforming lives.
