Job overview

Visiting Music Teacher Violin (Maternity Cover)

Salary- £38.73 per hour plus holiday pay

City Junior School is a co-educational junior school which opened its doors in September 2022. Located in the historic and peaceful surroundings of Grays Inn, our architecturally designed buildings reflect traditional values and a modern and innovative approach to education. As the newest member of the family of City Schools, the majority of our pupils transfer directly to the City of London School and the City of London School for Girls. We are looking for a Violin Teacher (maternity cover), to join the City Junior School Music Department. The role would be to teach violin to up to 10 pupils on Tuesdays and will include two early morning ensembles from 7.45am. Music and Performing Arts at CJS is inclusive, vibrant and purposeful. The vast majority of our pupils play one or more instruments and all thrive on the growing musical opportunities that enhance and enrich our curriculum. Our programme of concerts and performance opportunities make the most of our central location and our access to the facilities of the City of London Corporation. Although a new school, music is an integral part of school life and our choirs, string orchestras and other various guitar, percussion and wind ensembles celebrate our values of community and joy that we readily live out.

Closing date: 9am on 12 September 2024

City Junior School is fully committed to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. We have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Forum for staff, and another for pupils, which are used to help drive progress forward.

It is a top priority for the School that we both attract and retain a staff body that is not only excellent, but also reflects the London community within which we live, and our diverse pupil body. As such, it is of paramount importance to the School that we acknowledge our current imbalance and seek to rectify this. We are therefore particularly keen to encourage applications from candidates who have African Caribbean, Asian or other Minority Ethnic or mixed heritage. All appointments are merit-based, following a fair, transparent recruitment process. In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, however, the School may employ positive action where diverse candidates demonstrate the ability to perform the role equally well.

City Junior School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

About City Junior School

Our school

At City Junior School, we believe that children should be well supported to learn to the very best of their ability, whilst at the same time being given the freedom to fully enjoy their childhood.

Our pupils receive a rigorous yet rounded education. A thoughtfully designed curriculum provides them with opportunities to create, connect and collaborate both within and beyond the classroom. They are encouraged to ask questions, take risks and think creatively. Technology is used judiciously to enhance learning, and sport and the arts feature prominently in school life.

Kindness and compassion, for self and others, are modelled and taught; the happiness and wellbeing of your child is at the heart of all that we do.
