Visual Art Teacher of Pre-Prep and Lower Prep (Year 1 - Year 4)

Part Time (2 days a week, Monday and Tuesday 8.00am - 6.00pm), Maternity Cover

We are seeking to appoint a passionate and enthusiastic Teacher of Visual Art to join our creative and inspirational department.

The successful applicant will be a teacher who is highly organised, passionate about innovative learning and teaching and someone who aims to help students be their most successful selves. The successful applicant will teach Visual Arts to our students in Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4, taking on board the planning, preparation and delivery of these curriculums, covering maternity leave. 

Specific Responsibilities

  •  Develop and implement art curriculum for Year 1 to Year 4 students.
  • Plan and conduct art lessons that encourage creativity and self-expression.
  • Introduce students to various art forms, techniques, and materials. 
  • Assess and evaluate students’ progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Organize and display students’ artwork within the school.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Prepare resources for lessons and manage stock when required.
  • Work with the Head of Visual Arts to support the aims of the department.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate art into the broader curriculum.

Qualifications and Skills

 ·        Bachelor’s degree in art education or a related field.

·        Teaching certification in art or primary education.

·        Proven experience in teaching art to young children.

·        Strong knowledge of art techniques and materials.

·        Ability to create engaging and age-appropriate art lessons.

·        Excellent classroom management skills.

·        Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·        Creativity and enthusiasm for teaching art.

Person Specification

As a Visual Arts Teacher, you will ideally:

  • Be patience and understanding when working with young children.
  • Have passion for art and teaching.
  • Have the Ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Have adaptability and flexibility in teaching methods.
  • Be responsible for your own Health and Safety.


Additional Duties:

  • Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Communicate with parents about students’ progress and any concerns.
  • Attend allocated break and lunch time duty.
  • Participate in school events and activities, engaging in the wider school community.
