KS2
Use magnifying glasses to closely observe and record pieces of coral, initially using pencil or charcoal. Select examples of coral that are pale in colour and extend pupils understanding of tone in pastel shades by using two closely related colours, and mixing each with white to extend the range.
KS3
Use photos of coral from the internet as a stimulus for abstract design (eg www.touregypt.com). Manipulate these images using Adobe Photoshop to explore pattern line and colour and then develop into abstract paintings by projecting them onto larger surfaces using a data projector or overhead projector.
