A LEICESTER primary school postponed its traditional Christmas carol concert until today out of respect for followers of Islam. Zaheer Mohammed, headteacher at Highfields school, where 87 per cent of pupils are Muslim, told parents that it was inappropiate to sing during the Muslim festival of Ramadan. “We wanted to mark both Christian and Islamic festivals in equal measure,” he said. “For example, our nativity play took place without singing. We Three Kings was recited rather than sung.”
