Kate Cherry, HMI lead officer for pre-school education, has become the first schools inspector in Scotland to be awarded a Churchill Travelling Fellowship. Only 100 British citizens are chosen each year, and Ms Cherry intends to visit the United States and Sweden to study qualifications and competences in the pre-school field. A former head of Drumlanrig St Cuthbert’s primary in Hawick, Ms Cherry has been with the Inspectorate full-time since 1996 when she joined from the audit unit.
