Visitors to the excellent and newly-built Alexander Peden primary in Harthill, where the national teacher recruitment campaign was launched, were greeted with the strong smell of natural, horse-drawn fertiliser. Where there’s muck, there are emerging gardens in need of nurture.
Such thoughts were obviously uppermost in the mind of one visitor, intrigued by the name of Alexander Peden primary.
“I assume he was continent by the time he reached secondary?” he ventured. For the record, Peden was in fact a Covenanter of some repute.
