Two Linlithgow primaries have, within six weeks of each other, been awarded the highest commendation by inspectors. Both Linlithgow Bridge primary and Low Port primary have turned in 15 very goods in the list of quality indicators, the maximum possible.
Pupils at Linlithgow Bridge could not raise any significant concerns when asked what they would like to see improved. They enjoyed being at school, felt teachers knew them and listened to what they had to say.
At Low Port, some pupils wanted a better approach to dealing with bullying but most felt they were well supported by teachers.
Staff in both West Lothian schools could not identify any major areas for improvement.
The inspectors praise leadership in both primaries and in last week’s report describe Anne Corr, head of Linlithgow Bridge, as “outstanding”. She had a clear vision for the school, only opened two years ago, led by example, delegated effectively and created a team spirit. One of two criticisms is confined to cutting the build-up of heat in classrooms.
At Low Port, Graeme Logan, at 28, is one of the youngest heads in Scotland.
Mr Logan took over after the inspection but senior staff are highly commended.
“All staff were involved in raising attainment throughout the school.
Systems for evaluating and monitoring performance were of high quality,” inspectors say.
