A new report has found that the creative potential of “edutainment” software that allows children to tell or make stories is severely limited. The British Film Institute Education Projects study, by Julian Sefton-Green and David Parker, calls for simpler versions of non-linear editing software to be devised for school us. They say this would allow pupils to create moving image stories as well as support the more traditional literacy skills that are high on the educational agenda. “Edit-Play: How Children Use Edutainment Software To Tell Stories” can be read online (PDF format) at: www.bfi.org.ukeducationedit-playindex.html
