They are Marie Allan, the union’s immediate past president and assistant principal teacher of English at Holy Rood High in Edinburgh; Barbara Clark, current president and principal guidance teacher at Bo’ness Academy; David Eaglesham, the acting depute general secretary; and Bill Guthrie, the union’s vice-president and assistant principal biology teacher at Perth High.
Craig Duncan, the acting general secretary, was not nominated by any of the union’s local associations.
The SSTA is the only one of the four Scottish teacher unions required by legislation to hold an election for its top official. The Educational Institute of Scotland is exempted by its royal charter. The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers and the Professional Association of Teachers have regional officers in Scotland who do not have to stand for election.
The ballot will be held in the first three weeks of November.
