What trite euphemisms from Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector Sir Michael Wilshaw (“Inspectorate apologises over ‘not safe’ judgements”, News at a glance, 2 August) to parents and children at Stanbridge Earls School in Hampshire. His “sincerest apologies” fail to explain exactly how the most recent Ofsted inspection in 2012 rated the school as outstanding. The detestable arrogance of the inspection system, which can make or break schools by its decisions, goes some way to explaining how such misplaced judgements are allowed to prevail. Surely it is time for the organisation to be dismantled?
