Your article on governors on LEA committees (TES, March 13) could have benefited from two crucial facts.
First, the parents who will be on LEA committees will be parent governors. Second, they will be elected by other parent governors in an LEA.
Since the LEA already appoints a number of other school governors, it is sensible that parent governors are the ones with a guaranteed place on the committee. It is of course open to LEAs - and we would encourage them to do so - to include in a non-voting capacity others including governors and teachers.

Editor: Our apologies for overlooking the amendment to the Bill on January 29 which substituted representatives of parent governors for representatives of parents.
