The mother of all resources
Sexual health charity Marie Stopes has produced a series of films for schools to support a campaign on maternal health in developing countries. Make Women Matter aims to explore the issues faced by women in poorer countries. The films are accompanied by lesson plans and notes for teachers. See www.makewomenmatter.org
ENGLISH
What is it?
This is a collection of resources on F Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, and has been specifically created for the aspects of narrative unit in the AQA English literature A-level syllabus. It gives an overview of the novel, its characters and themes, as well as more focused analysis of key passages, and can also be used to help pupils with exam practice. It has been created by TESEnglish.
How to use it
The collection features context for the novel, including a brief biography of Fitzgerald and worksheets on America in the 1920s. A narrative section provides summaries of each chapter and suggested activities.
There is also an analysis of key characters and a worksheet on the links between the characters and the novel’s ideas and themes.
A set of resources looks at some of the novel’s themes: the American dream; ambition and aspiration; decadence and materialism; perception and artifice; and self-perception and ego. There are also resources on the form, structure, language and style of The Great Gatsby.

HISTORY
What is it?
This is a collection of resources designed to provide a bank to help with revision for GCSE modern world history. It includes topic summaries, questions to practise source analysis techniques and activities to make revision fun. It has been chosen by Daniel Hartley, TES Resources history adviser and lead teacher of history at Chulmleigh Community College in Devon (username Chulmleigh Community College).
How to use it
General revision material includes revision quiz cards and political cartoons (both uploaded by annajordan) and notes on the inter-war period (sarahscd). Resources on appeasement include a set of classroom activities accompanied by teacher notes (annajordan) and source sheets on the road to war (sarahscd).
An online simulation, including 50 locations and photographs, aims to teach pupils about the strengths and weaknesses of Tsarist Russia (russeltarr); a PowerPoint and bingo game examines the Russian Revolution (clairejagger), while another PowerPoint looks at the Bolshevik takeoever (donnaw1984).
Resources on the US include a set of worksheets and presentations on the civil rights movement (NGfLCymru) and a lesson plan on the anti-Vietnam War demonstrations (ThePeopleSpeak). A role play gives pupils the chance to examine the Cold War from the point of view of the secret services of the US, Soviet Union and Great Britain (pepeuk).
Dedicated British resources include a lesson plan for a courtroom drama on the Easter Rising (ThePeopleSpeak), worksheets on the impact of women’s war work on the campaign for female suffrage (Emily Thomas), and a PowerPoint version of the Richard and Judy game You Say, We Pay to look at votes for women (robert peel).

DESIGN amp; TECHNOLOGY
What is it?
This is a set of 10 resources for food technology, selected by TES Resources DT adviser Spencer Herbert, head of design technology at Ravens Wood School for Boys in Bromley, Kent, and ownermanager of design analysis tool Access FM (username Spencer_DT).
How to use it
The collection includes a scheme of work for Year 8, using some recipes from the Department for Education’s Licence to Cook site, plus an end-of-unit test (uploaded by jsharp72). A PowerPoint provides a visual guide for a Year 8 pastry lesson, including guidance on safe food temperatures and the use of temperature probes (Miss Hawe). A clip art document of food labels is aimed at GCSE students but can also be useful for KS3 (janharper).
Sensory analysis materials include a PowerPoint lesson (littlemissraw), a lesson on using sensory descriptors, aimed at Year 7 pupils (pkrobinson) and a food and nutrition evaluation with an example of sensory analysis for Year 10s (littlemissraw).
A PowerPoint on food and religion is supported by an activity worksheet, including the task of putting together a three-course meal suitable for particular religious groups (Erica c hanson), while another PowerPoint challenges pupils to guess where dishes are from (hayleybeth).
