The recent success story of London’s schools will be at the heart of the second London Festival of Education, which has been announced for February next year.

The TES has teamed up with the Institute of Education (IoE) to host the one-day event, which will explore the reasons behind the capital’s incredible rise in achievement over the past decade.

Is it down to immigration, initiatives such as Teach First, the London Challenge, economic success or the boom in academies?

Or perhaps the gentrification of inner cities has played a role? And the big question is, can any of it be replicated elsewhere?

Speakers to catch at the event will be Munira Mirza, deputy mayor for education and culture, Tristram Hunt, the shadow education secretary, Sam Freedman, director or research at Teach First; Kevan Collins, chief executive of the Education Endowment Foundation and Pasi Sahlberg, a leading expert on school reform.

London aside, the festival will explore a wide range of other issues affecting teachers around the country as they strive to improve their schools.

There will be talks, practical workshops and a vibrant mix of performances.

The event is aimed at teachers, parents, young people and policy makers and will take place on 28 February at the IoE.
