The majority of secondary teachers now believe indiscipline is a major concern - but most primary staff do not share that view. David Henderson reports

“There is no promise of overnight transformation - hence the staged approach - but there is certainly no more threat of being forced to struggle on alone,” say the advocates of staged intervention.

Schools across the country are now involved in the Framework for Intervention approach, first devised in Birmingham, which provides a practical three-stage model of intervention.

Behaviour co-ordinators are based in 23 out of Scotland’s 32 local authorities, offering advice to colleagues in schools.

Maggie Fallon, training co-ordinator for Scotland, says the model will not be successful without the high-profile support of the headteacher.
