Those attracted to language teaching are often dissuaded by the apparent poor career prospects on offer. Many of those who successfully complete teacher training do not stay in the profession for long.
LLUK is undertaking many projects to attract new teachers and improve their training.
These range from a current survey of the workforce to the development of pre-service part-time specialist training programmes. The impact of these positive measures will be lessened if those leaving training continue to search in vain for substantial or full time, permanent jobs.
Migrants will continue to search for English teachers unless we care for those we have.
