Labour’s latest plan to introduce a “new literacy task force to examine ways of ensuring that every child leaving primary school does so with a reading age of 11 by the end of a second term of office”, has me perplexed (TES, May 31). Even if Labour wins the next two elections, a reading age of 11 at the age of 21 is not what I call impressive.
