Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, which pioneered the theatre-in-education movement nearly 30 years ago, is axing its education department by the end of the month because of budget cuts. Eleven staff will lose their jobs.
Equity, the actors union, which began boycotting the theatre two weeks ago in protest at the move, voted on Tuesday to continue to do so. When Calamity Jane finishes its run in March it could mean the end of the Belgrade as no casting can be done for the next show.
