Work starts on revised national curriculum; Summer term: Publication of new statutory Orders in non-core primary subjects; new national curriculum documents sent to schools; From August: Primary schools must maintain “balanced and broadly based curriculum” but no obligation to follow programmes of study in six non-core subjects. Inspectors to stop reporting the extent to which teaching complies with curriculum in non-core subjects. QCA consults on effectiveness of its guidance on breadth and balance in primary curriculum.
