The Department for Education and Skills has backed a school’s right to send pupils home for not wearing the correct uniform. It said it was “plain common sense” that Trinity academy, near Doncaster, should be able to enforce school uniform policy.
Parents had complained after the academy sent home pupils who turned up to school with nail extensions and spiky hair.
A spokesman for the DfES, said: “It is nonsense to suggest that schools can’t send pupils home to change into the correct uniform.”
