Schools are invited to join in the world’s largest simultaneous sing this December. Young Voices, who set the Guinness World Record for the largest choir ever assembled in the UK on November 28 last year, with 6,846 voices from schools in the Greater Manchester area, are planning this national effort to set a new record. Each participating school will receive a copy of the Guinness World Record certificate and details of Young Voices concerts, which this winter are running on major stages in Birmingham, Sheffield, Manchester, Dublin and Belfast.
At precisely 2.45pm on Monday December 9, as many schools as possible are asked to sing one song from the Young Voices Christmas music pack. The pack includes a full choral repertoire for a school Christmas concert, with a music book and two CDs, one sung in studio and one with a backing track for rehearsal. Schools are asked to verify their contribution and to join in with a collection in aid of Sargent Cancer Care for children (www.sargent.org).
Young Voices has for the past seven years staged massive concerts of more than 4,000 voices to enthuse children with making music. Specially arranged songs, carols and medleys on the programme have featured performances by guest artists as diverse as David Gray, Sir Cliff Richard and Gary Barlow.
