Your job and career questions answered
Q: Is there any truth in the rumour that Ofsted inspectors are more interested in my performance as a head of department than in my planning?
A: A new inspection framework came into force this September. There is now more emphasis on leadership and management, both seen as vital to school improvement.
School self-evaluation will also play a greater role. Inspectors applying good practice always start by seeking evidence before making judgments, so it will no longer be good enough to have wonderful paperwork but poor lessons. Schools will be judged on what they are doing to improve the learning outcomes of their pupils.
Ofsted says the framework will further reduce bureaucracy. Haven’t we heard that before somewhere?
