<p>This is an updated version of a Christmas Science Quiz posted on TES a few years ago. The first round includes a quiz based on month-by-month science stories with links to the news articles.</p> <p>Free to colleagues in need of a helping hand at this busy time of year and to their classes in need of some festive fun.</p>

Three revision mind maps relating to chemistry content for AQA Chemistry 1.2 and 1.3 (metals and limestone). The idea is to print out the mindmaps for the students to fill in, but equally you could print off the mindmap answers as a revision resource. Students could highlight and add pictures to make their mind maps memorable.

<p>A very simple worksheet to practice the principle of working out initial rate of reaction from the gradient of the curve. Good to use as practice questions after initial instruction.</p>

<p>Resource designed for Topic 8 Edexcel A (SNAB/Nuffield) A-level Biology. Students use information on the effects of drugs on the synapse to annotate the diagram and summarise information in a table. Answers provided. This activity goes alongside the Problems with the synapses (8.7) section of the specification. Extension idea is to bring in other drugs e.g. poisons and demonstrate their effect on the synapse also.</p>

A number of revision activities for SNAB Topic 2: Genes and Health. Including a keyword crossword, quick-fire quiz rounds and an activity where students have to fill in tables, label diagrams and draw diagrams. I'm going to put it all together as an end of year quiz, but activities could also be used separately in lessons or for revision at home.

This is a Powerpoint designed to aid teacher explanation of regulating water content of mucus in the lungs for SNAB A-level Biology, it goes through the process step-by-step for when there is too much water in the mucus and too little and then considers how this differs in people with cystic fibrosis. This is tricky topic for Year 1 of A-level so I've tried to break it down. I welcome any feedback. Posting as I think it could be a useful resource for others. No charge!

Card sort to create flow chart to follow the pupil reflex covered in SNAB Edexcel A Biology course. Includes statement cards (to cut out and laminate), questions and answers.

<p>This is a great little group-work activity that encourages students to use their brains to work out how the lac operon works both in the absence of and with the presence of lactose.</p> <p>The students are given background information and are encouraged to sketch out their own diagram of what is happening. They are given an envelope containing four clues (to be opened in the correct order!)</p> <p>This works best if the students have no familiarity with the lac operon before entering the lesson - but do need to know about transcription and translation. At its best, students feel pleased to have worked out a tricky process by themselves. Once students have figured it out themselves I get them to explain to another group. Ideally follow up with exam questions.</p>

<p>Short starter/plenary activity designed to test student’s understanding of glycolysis with 8 true or false questions. Matches OCR A-level specification from 2015. To go with Module 5 Unit on Respiration. Answers included on the PowerPoint slides.</p>

<p>Simple game of keyword bingo to help first-year A-level Biology students to embed their knowledge of organelles keywords.</p> <p>First powerpoint contains list of keywords (students choose 9) and bingo instructions</p> <p>Second powerpoint automatically scrolls definitions of organelles - hit ‘del’ button to randomly choose a definition.</p> <p>Students tick off the keyword that matches the definition if it’s on their list - student who gets all the keywords listed calls out “Bingo” and the game ends.</p> <p>Designed to match OCR A specification but would be suitable for other A-level Biology courses</p>
