This is a lesson about why the reformation spread to England and the impact it had on different groups of people in England. It is includes a reading comprehension and chronology task, role play cards and table to fill in, paragraph assessment activity and peer assessment criteria.

This lesson was designed for the Level 2 GCSE History Edexcel course. It would also fit with the SHP course surgery paper or new GCSE 9-1 medicine unit. It looks at Joseph Lister and opposition to his work. Students then complete a 7 mark key features question with exemplar answers and markschemes. It was planned for a lower ability group but you could extend and adapt it for higer ability students. <br /> <br /> The LO is to identify who Lister was, explain reasons for oppositions and evaluate how far problems of surgery had been solved. There is also a brief consideration of which factors helped his work.<br /> <br /> You need an information sheet about his work to go with the lesson. I used the edexcel SHP double page spread but the IGCSE textbook or any other information page about his work would also work.

Students explore why the church was important during the Middle ages. They look at a Doom painting to start with and analyse the painting. They then conduct a card sort about the beliefs, practices, jobs and information about the church. They write a paragraph (with success criteria) explaining why the church was important and then they peer assess this.

This presentation has a keyword match up activity with missing definitons and keywords that get students to engage with the key concepts. They then work in groups to plan the main points for 2 paragraphs of an essay. The winning group is the one that gets the best points (ie most on the answer slides or bonus points for points not on the answers). If you want you can get students to complete the essay for homework or plan another paragraph.
