Basic skills numeracy workbook with video links

(0)
This booklet has been created for use with KS3 pupils in my school to ensure that pupils are able to do the basic numeracy skills and to provide consistency of my schools preferred methods. This booklet has QR codes on each page which can be scanned by pupils that link to appropriate YouTube videos if they get stuck. I am implementing this booklet for use in form time but could be used as a starting point for the year or starters for each lesson. I am creating a KS4 version, however, this could be used at any key stage.

Composite Solids Lesson

(0)
A lesson on composite solids to be taught after pupils have learnt volume and surface area of cones an spheres and the volume of a pyramid. It recaps key skills and then allows them to apply knowledge to composite shapes before attempting past exam questions.

Hope it's useful!

Assessment without levels reference guide

This file provides a usable mapping system whereby you can track what banding a pupil should leave school with in Yr 11 based on their NC level on entry. I have also provided the equivalent banding and fine levels for each year making is easier for teachers to track where their pupils are at throughout secondary school. As the NC levels are being phased out this could then be used in conjection with baseline assessments.

Practical intro to Ratio

(0)
This is a SMART file based around ratio using practical demonstrations with blackcurrant squash. Can be done in one or more lessons.

Starter is basic simplifying fractions with extension question.

I then hand out a topic objective sheet which they fill in before we start.

Pupils then discuss where ratio is seen in real life and then we move on to demonstrating concentrates of blackcurrant to water. I always start with 1:0 and 0:1. As we work through I demonstrate on the board what the numbers mean until we find the best ratio (normally 1:4). Pupils then do an exercise on writing a ratio. Peer assess and then re-fill in first objective and use RAG cards to show where they are.

Pupils then look at equivalent ratios and cancelling using HCF and do a SA exercise before PA. Then pupils can progress on to dividing an amount. All contained in this SMART file. Lovely engaging lesson that is fun to teach - had it observed in 2 schools and received outstanding on both.

Please comment if you download! :)
