For example, if they see the numbers 2, 4, 1, 5, 3, and 9 connecting, they could write 24+15=39. This is built-in differentiation, because students who are struggling could still find the pattern 4+1=5 in that same number string, or 2+4-1=5 if they are a little more advanced.
