A series of fifteen lessons that encourage students to develop creative writing skills. The lessons are designed for KS3 students to explore Susan Hill's creative writing techniques and use them to enhance their own writing. Lessons focus on using descriptive language devices, punctuation and sentence structure for dramatic effect. There are also speaking and listening activities, two assessments, differentiated materials and home works. I delivered these lessons after my students studied the first half of the novel, focusing on reading skills (these resources are available separately).

A group activity that students can do to create their own mnemonics to help them to spell difficult words.

This is a series of five lessons that focus on structuring and writing speeches. The lessons lead up to a speaking and listening activity in which winners are elected for a whole-school competition. Each lesson should take around 40 minutes to deliver, allowing time for independent reading or a grammar activity at the beginning of each lesson. <br /> LO: to develop the ability to write and deliver speeches.

A series of 13 slides that can be printed for display and emailed to tutors to share with form groups. The slides include definitions along with examples of each word used in sentences. The list of words used was compiled by teachers from a range of subject areas to expand useful vocabulary in their classes. Most useful for KS3 whole school literacy.

A series of 8 presentations that focus on basic punctuation. These can be used for whole school literacy or to support English lessons. The are designed for KS3 but could be used for KS2 or KS4 students who need support.

This is a series of seven literacy-based lessons that has been put together to develop basic paragraphing skills. Each PowerPoint should take 30 - 40 minutes to teach, leaving time for independent reading at the beginning or end of each lesson. The resources were made for KS3 students, but could be used to support lower ability KS4. This package includes a SOW overview plus PowerPoint presentations and Word docs to support each lesson. <br /> LO: to develop the ability to write effective paragraphs.

A series of twelve lessons designed to introduce KS3 students to the analysis of fictional prose. The scheme of work includes lessons that focus on writing paragraphs that analyse language devices, punctuation and structural techniques. It also introduces students to writing styles and contextual influences of the Victorian/Edwardian era. A range of homework activities and extension/support materials are included to stretch and challenge students with a range of different abilities. The assessments are designed to establish the skills required for analysing extracts for GCSE literature questions. This series of lessons focusses on the first half of Susan Hill's novella 'The Woman in Black'. I have written a second SOW that looks at the second half of the novella, focussing on creative writing skills (available separately).

Sixteen very basic ppts that explain some spelling rules and exceptions. I used these to set weekly spelling tests for students in KS3 who really struggle with spelling.

A checklist to help students to plan for creative writing. This prompts them to use language and structural techniques along with more sophisticated vocabulary.
