These grids split the Y3/4 combined curriculum content for writing and aimed to order it with progression into two separate year groups. I recommend using both Y3 and Y4 grids to ensure content coverage and revisiting objectives.

They also marry up with objectives on Target Tracker if you use that software.

Year 5 Writing Assessment Grid (New Curriculum)

These grids split the Y5/6 combined curriculum content for writing and aimed to order it with progression into two separate year groups. I recommend using both grids to ensure content coverage and revisiting objectives.

They also marry up with objectives on Target Tracker if you use that software.

Please note: these are based on assessing curriculum objectives. Those of you that teach Year 6 will know that the government (half way through last year) published an assessment framework for writing, which actually contained some other content not contained in the curriculum objectives. I used these grids through the year, then coming up to moderation/SATs season, I used the Writing Framework Checklist (see other resources) to assess a portfolio of work.
