This detailed document has extensively broken down the knowledge and skills within the mathematics curriculum in Reception. It is 9 different skill sets for children to develop, in order to build the ultimate foundations in mathematical understanding. This progression document has been developed using learning trajectories, White Rose Maths and the NCETM. If you are new to EYFS, an EYFS Lead, a member of SLT, or a Maths Lead, this document will help you to unpick the barriers to individual children’s maths learning. It will provide the sequential steps needed to close the gap in a child’s knowledge or skill. This can then be fed back to parents/carers to build children’s confidence and fluency in mathematics. By thinking of the 9 development points within early maths, it ensures children develop a robust mathematical knowledge from subitising and rote counting to addition and subtraction.
