I would recommend changing the children's names in the word problems to personalise them, making them more meaningful for the children.

This is a year 5/6 plan, containing two Powerpoints - one informing children about the 'Cold War' and one about the 'Space Race'<br /> There are opportunities for discussion and differentiated sheets for the children to complete after each of the powerpoints. There are opportunities to link this into debates (should Laika the dog have been sent into Space?).

Reasoning, finding all possibilities. Lower abilities could use corresponding coloured counters or pieces of paper. This lesson could encourage a lot of discussion and verbal reasoning skills.
