In response to Year 9 moaning about poetry being boring, I decided to show them how important, relevant and current poetry can be by addressing artists they are familiar with. This resource aims to analyse a poem by Tupac, helping students to build their skills in analysing unseen poetry.

In response to Year 9 moaning about poetry being boring, I decided to use material that they would recognise as being relevant, current and familiar. That way my students would then understand the significance and impact of poetry. I also wanted to debunk the myth the songs they were listening to weren’t poetry, that in fact every day they were using poetry analytical skills. This resource helps students to analyse Stormzy’s lyrics for 100 Bags, using a small extract, modified to make it age appropriate for classroom use.
