Newspaper Report - Organisation, Speech and Tense - Based on Holes
A mini-unit of work which includes the deconstruction of a model newspaper report, group discussions and an independent writing task to raise awareness of some key organisational and language features (e.g. direct and reported speech, appropriate tense use) of an effective text. The resources were originally developed within a high-achieving, multilingual international school and were aimed predominantly at English language learners. However, the structured approach has also proven to be effective for 1st language English students who are developing awareness of academic literacy skills. To be used in conjunction with the novel Holes, the mini-unit includes a PowerPoint presentation and related activities within a Word document.
