This pdf can be printed and made into a 4 sided A4 booklet. It includes information and images about 13 different smart materials & their applications e.g. polymorph, smart grease, photochromic and shape memory alloys. I produced this to use with A Level students but it would also be useful at GCSE level.
Includes a PowerPoint presentation which contains the image students will work from. Also includes the answers (which build up individually). I have used this exercise as both a printed one & also as an individual slide (just use the first one in the presentation) which pupils type into during a computer lesson or via Moodle for homework. They always enjoy this activity and especially in groups. The letters are always from the first letter on the company name.
I have used this with various year groups, as a homework activity. My students have always enjoyed making & photographing their own word ideas. Explaining the concept can be tricky and I find the best way is to show examples of previous projects, which are included in this resource. The Powerpoint & PDF (identical content) contain 13 slides and help to explain the task to a class.
This pdf contains 2 copies of the Resistor Calculator on one A4 page. Print onto card so that your students can make their own. You will also need one paper fastener each.
I produced this resource as an end of unit test for A Level Product Design students. I project the PowerPoint test on the white board & the students wuld fill in the answers on a numbered answer sheet. There are 63 questions including multi-choice, single answer and fill in the blank varieties. There are questions about types of polymers, manufacturing processes and product applications. I have also included a unnumbered version which you could re-sort or delete any unwanted questions. The answers are all included in the notes section below the slides. I have also set this as hmwk by putting it as a pdf version onto the school moodle.
I have used this with both A Level & GCSE classes in order to reinforce the definitions of 13 smart materials e.g. shape memory alloy, polymorph & thermochromic pigments etc. I printed the two 'to pin up files' and glued the b&w & colour versions back-to-back and laminated them. I blu-tac these around the workshop & the pupils (in pairs) have to walk around the room linking the sentence definition (at the bottom of each slide) to the word definition (at the top of another slide) & so on until they have filled their blank sheet. They have to read the sentence and then hunt for the word definition on another slide (hence the 'treasure hunt'). Make sure that they are mixed up and ask each pair to start at a different point. When complete, you can turn the sheets over, so that they can follow the colour code to check their answers, or show the answers on the PowerPoint. I have included instructions.
An A3 information sheet about adhesives. Includes a range of design and technology adhesives and I use it with KS4 classes. Looks at positive, negatives of different glues and which materials they work with etc.
2x A3 Pdf scans of my hand drawn theory information sheets for my GCSE Graphics classes. I project them, have them on moodle, email to student &print them. I use them to talk through theory content & students also use them for revision purposes.
