French cities/countries/nationality/past tense & game

(5)
I have found this activity as a really fun way to introduce Past tense, as well as consolidate knowledge of cities, countries and nationalities. The game is called “Kill the tortoise”. The class divide into teams. Each team is given two mini white boards and a white board pen. On one white board they must draw a tortoise with: One head / One body / One shell / One tail / Four feet. Ask a question to the class Red challenge: Je suis allé à ____ Orange challenge: Je suis allé à ___ en ___ Green challenge: Je suis allé à ___ en ___ et j’ai rencontré un ____ If they are correct they get to “Kill” one part of another team’s turtle. Rule: They can not go to the same team twice in a row. Team with the most remaining parts of their turtle is the winner. It creates a great atmosphere and the pupils really enjoy themselves. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement or you spot any mistakes! Merci beaucoup!

Welcome to my page! Resource?: To be used as a guide for the year to support a Higher French class. What?: It has vocab, tracking, prelim reflections, topics, grammar, culture and tasks for each topic. Why?: It is a collection of resources - either self-made, prelim exercises given by colleagues, or directed writing bullet point vocab banks gathered from other TES resources. I felt that since it has been such a colloboration over the years since the introduction of the new Higher, it would be good to share on TES. Support?: It is an invaluable resource to give pupils an overview of the year and support their progress, especially if it a bi-level class. The only resource unavailable are the dictée sound files. Let me know if you have any suggestions for improvement, constructive criticism is always welcome and valued! Merci! Gracias! - The Polyglotscot.

Past tense holidays speaking game

(2)
This is a Talking exercise for the holiday topic. For me, it is a more fun and fast paced challenge to help pupils revise questions and answering in the past tense. I use Jenga but it can be done with any other game, I find that Jenga adds in a bit of fun and competition between tables. The task: A pupil rolls the dice and depending on the the number, they ask that question to the next pupil in their team. The pupil answers the question using the grid or coming up with their own answer. Once they answer they take a block from the Jenga tower. This is repeated until the tower falls. The answers are covered up at the end of the class and pupils are tested using only memory skills and no resources. Let me know if you have any feedback on how to improve or if you spot any mistakes! Merci beaucoup!

Exit pass questions in French and Spanish

A good activity to use as a starter, you can print them out and keep them at the side of the classroom. Otherwise, I have a coloured copy on my door and the pupils choose a differentiated question as they leave. I would recommend that you laminate the one on the door, or tape over the questions as I have done, as the pupils often will point to the one they want to answer if they are feeling shy.
