Follows AQA specification. A step by step powerpoint of naming acyl chlorides, acid anhydrides and amines.
Reactions of acyl chlorides and acid anhydrides.
Mechanisms.
This powerpoint is designed to help my weaker students who struggle with organic chem. It concentrates on displayed formula for each point as always get my students to write their displayed formula out structurally underneath.
It does NOT contain the required practical.

NMR - AQA A Level

Written for a non specialist to teach NMR to A level students. It goes through the theory, the key specification points and has a couple of exam questions with answers to talk through with students. The powerpoint assumes students have no prior knowledge of NMR. Easy to follow with key points made clear. Example of H-NMR and 13C NMR within powerpoint is animated to show students where each point is found related to the molecule and also the data sheet. I would then follow up with practice exam questions as home learning.

UPDATE!

I have now uploaded a newer version (and kept the older one available so you get both), The updated version is more exam question based.

Perfect for an interview lesson! Practical and demonstration lesson to promote oracy, class discussion and enthuse students in science early on. The lesson consists of a mini practical to explain the link between ocean acidification and carbon dioxide. Intrigue of a shell less egg and linkage to the shells of sea creatures. Interpreting graph skills and 3 way differentiation of worksheets following worksheet assessing students knowledge on the subject. Used for an interview and as such lesson plan is included. A great lesson to teach and engage students with.

This resource goes over the AQA chemistry required practical 10A and 10B techniques.
This does not detail the method, it details the equipment used and questions students as to the use of particular requirements in the method.
It has 3 slides for students to fill in and all the answers are included.
Why is the solvent important, why the steps in recrystallisation are essential, why sodium chloride is used to separate the water phase etc. All key points are covered which are often exam questions.
This was prepared for Y13 students following the release of 2022 chemistry update for exams following disruption by C-19.
Students have found this really useful as a revision resource.

Practical 5b Ethanol to Ethanal (A Level Chemistry Required Practical)

Written as my students often follow the practical method without really understanding what is happening or why the steps are necessary. Goes through the Ethanol to Ethanal production, includes key focus points of the practical, what to include in their lab book write up and what research they need to do.
For me, I either use as a homelearning task or if time (time? What is that?) would do as a research and comprehension lesson prior to completing the practical.

BSW ocean acidification and density column lessons

2 Resources

2 lessons based on investigative skills.

Ocean acidification includes 2 practicals/demos and really brings home to all students the importance of maintaining the correct pH in our oceans. Features pH scale, graph interpretation (differentiated) and has been used, sucessfully, as an interview lesson (by myself and colleagues!)

The density lesson is a fun way of explaining the concept of density using practical skills. I have done this lesson with both SEN students and higher ability students. Obviously the higher ability explanation must be of greater depth!

Bargain price for both until BSW completed! Please leave a review!
