A revision game based on the BBC Quiz Show Pointless. My 2nd attempt at uploading this quiz. There were a few errors last time- it's harder than it looks creating one of these. Once again thanks to londinus for the Pointless template (and spotting my errors before too many downloads) Pick the question with the least popular answer. Incorrect answers automatically get 100 points. it&'s not hard to use, but you can download instructions on word.
I used this a couple of years ago, so some slides could be updated to more recent events that have taken place. The assembly was to get the pupils thinking about raising money for a charity of their choice.

15 Knowledges quizzes for each of the poems in the Power and Conflict cluster.

Ideal for low stakes testing of key ideas, messages, themes and quotations in the poems.

Each quiz contains 10 multiple choice questions

A handy planning sheet for students to construct a thesis, topic sentences and ideas they would discuss in an essay. (with 4 accompanying GCSE questions). Worked really well with low ability students who struggle to organise ideas and just retell the plot.

Easily adapted for other literature texts.

Two recent newspaper articles to inspire disengaged pupils- one about Joey Barton and the other about Will.i.am.
Both articles have an example WJEC style question to get the pupils anaylsing the text.
How does the writer...?
What impression is given...?
A Walking Talking Mock which guides pupils through how to approach the AQA English Language Paper 1 exam (Section A). I have used the SAMS 3 material however it could be easily adapted to suit all texts and amendments can be made to suit individual classes/ school approach to this exam. Includes integrated timers on each slide.

This was delivered to the whole of Year 11 under exam conditions in the room where they will sit the exam. This is important for a Walking Talking Mock to be successful as it has to be a replica of what they will experience in the actual exam.
The PowerPoint will need prior preparation- it goes alongside Destiny’s Child ‘Stand Up For Love’. I did have it set up so that it played along with the lyrics but I no longer have the song. So instead I have attached the link from YouTube.
A touching assembly to get the pupils to consider how others live and survive and was an introduction to raising money for pupils in other countries who are less fortunate.

A Walking Talking Mock based on the SAMS 1- Jamaica Inn.

For each question, it talks the pupils through how to answer the question, gives an example top band paragraph then gives the pupils time to complete a guided paragraph of their own (which builds on the modelled paragraph) as the timer counts down.

This has worked well with both Year 10 and 11 who were lacking in confidence of how to approach the exam.

It can be amended and another extract used if needed.

(If you require a copy of the Jamaica Inn text, please send me a message and I will email it you however it is available quite easily on the internet)

Detailed and fully resourced scheme of learning.

Targeted at higher ability Year 7, this scheme incorporates fiction, non-fiction and poetry skills required for GCSE Language (specifically AQA). Although it revolves around the reading of War Horse, poems such as Dulce et Decorum and Charge of the Light Brigade have also been used to give the pupils more of an insight into Morpurgo's novel.

There are 18 1 hour 15 minute lessons.

A short PowerPoint which gives the pupils some examples of ways to begin their creative writing. Some of these techniques could also be used for non-fiction writing.
